GSA considers cloud brokerage
As cloud computing continues to challenge traditional procurement processes, GSA is on the lookout for new ideas.
Cloud computing continues to challenge traditional technology acquisition models, but the General Services Administration is trying to overcome that.
One possible approach is a brokerage through which an entity – a contractor or agency – would serve as a middleman to connect agencies with providers who can meet their needs. GSA published a request for information July 17 to get a sense of the market options.
According to the RFI, its purpose is “to learn more about how government can further leverage the key characteristics and advantages of cloud computing to save money and increase IT efficiencies. Cloud brokerage is one concept that GSA is exploring and this RFI contains questions specific to cloud brokerage. However, on a larger scale GSA is seeking innovative industry approaches to acquiring, ordering, securing, provisioning and managing advanced IT services.”
GSA will host an industry day Aug. 2 for interested companies.
