In-Q-Tel enters venture with UK firm to develop transceiver technology
Goal is to boost data-sharing between companies, agencies.
The CIA’s venture capital arm In-Q-Tel entered into a partnership with U.K.-based Lime Microsystems to develop technology that receives and sends signals across various frequencies, the company announced.
The transceivers -- devices that both share and receive communications -- in development would be compatible with multiple standards. If successfully implemented, the technology could facilitate quick sharing of data across various devices and communications systems used by commercial players and agencies.
Lime Microsystems, a maker of communications technology, did not disclose the amount of funding received from In-Q-Tel or the specific standards the technology being funded would meet. It has previously designed the LMS6002D transceiver for 3GPP (WCDMA/HSPA and LTE), 3GPP2 (CDMA2000) and WiMAX applications.
