GSA awards cloud-based email BPAs

Agencies will now have access to 20 blanket purchase agreements through which to purchase cloud-based email services, the General Services Administration announced Aug. 30.

GSA said the BPAs will simplify ways to meet the reoccurring needs for cloud-based services, even greatly decreasing costs. The email service contracts allow vendors to provide the government with email, cloud-based office automation, electronic records management, migration services, and integration services.

President Barack Obama has asked agencies to move IT to a cloud envrionment when it makes sense as a means to be more efficient. The Office of Management and Budget’s 25 Point Federal IT Reform Plan and  the "Cloud First" initiative require agencies to consider cloud-based solutions as the new default IT solution as well.

“Our innovative cloud solutions are another example of how GSA offers the best value, low cost services that help agencies serve the American people,” said Mary Davie, acting Federal Acquisition Service commissioner.
