GSA plots Schedule 70 cyber assurance SIN

The General Services Administration wants to create a new category identifier under its Schedule 70 government wide acquisition vehicle that would highlight cyber and information assurance products and services.

GSA issued a request for information on Aug. 12 asking for input on its proposal to add a new special item number (SIN) under IT Schedule 70 indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity multiple award schedule contract vehicle specifically for Cybersecurity/Information Assurance (CyberIA) products and services. 

SINs allow customers to easily identify and order related products and services using the contract.

The agency said the addition would give customers a better way to way to find CyberIA products in the massive multiple award schedule, as well as increase their visibility and give vendors a way to differentiate their CyberIA products from related IT products.

According to the RFI, the proposed SIN categories would include hardware, software and services associated with:

●       Information assurance.

●       Virus detection.

●       Intrusion detection and prevention.

●       Network management.

●       Situational awareness and incident response.

●       Secure web hosting.

●       Backup and security services.

●       Communications security.

GSA unveiled in April a SIN for cloud services, to better allow federal agency customers to find those services in the massive Schedule 70.

And earlier this year GSA asked for industry input on plans for a health IT products SIN.
