Never is a wireless network so important as when you don't have access to one. While Congress is trying to add Wi-Fi to National Parks, in the meantime hikers, bikers and other outdoorsy types have GoTenna.

This system can create a wireless network out of thin air. It uses two weather-resistant antennas that connect to send text messages, broadcast the user's current location and send out emergency alerts.

It does not, however, give users high-speed Internet access.

Instead, use it if you want to make sure you've got a connection while wandering in the woods, your house is simply in a dead zone or any other time you can't rely on a regular network.
