Video: How to Track Your PC or Mac if You Lose It

A missing or stolen laptop is a nightmare situation for many. Before disaster strikes, however, users can do something to prevent it: Turn on location tracking.

For computers running Windows 10, click "Start," "Settings," "Update & Security" and then "Find my device" to make sure the feature is activated. Connect with your Microsoft account on another device to track your missing device.

Unfortunately, users can't currently wipe or lock their computer remotely to prevent information theft; they can only track it.

For Macs, click "System preferences," "iCloud," then scroll down the list and click to turn on "Find my Mac." From there, you can use another iOS device to locate as well as lock devices from afar.
