New ways to do an age-old chore.

April 15 is just around the corner. If you haven't done your taxes yet, and if, like many others, you dread the task, consider using a variety of smartphone app to figure out how much the government owes you this year.

The Taxcaster app works in conjunction with tax software TurboTax, while Shoeboxed lets users photograph and keep records of receipts, which can be invaluable during tax season.

And why not use an app from the government itself? The Internal Revenue Service (the agency taking your money) has an app, IRS2GO, which lets you securely pay your taxes and see status updates about your refund.
