Video: Take a Peek inside Dropbox's Cloud Storage System

The company valued at $10 billion has developed its own state-of-the-art method of storage.
The multibillion-dollar cloud computing market just got another entry: Dropbox.
Until recently, Dropbox stored photos, videos and other files for a half a billion people by storing them with Amazon's cloud. The tech company has now taken on the storage duties itself.
"We're storing upward of 500 petabytes in our system that we have designed from scratch, which is known as 'Magic Pocket,'" said Aditiya Agarwal, VP of engineering at Dropbox.
One petabyte is a million gigabytes, and 90 percent of the company's data is running on this new system, which features incredibly dense hard drives.
"This is as dense as you can physically get right now," said James Cowling, Dropbox's storage team lead. "Our limiting factor is physically how heavy these things are. You're talking about the weight of a car at least, when you have a big rack of these."
