Amazon Introduces a New Collection of Smart Home Gadgets
The company aims to have an Echo for everyone.
The Amazon Echo has been a popular smart home gadget for several years, and on Wednesday the company announced it is expanding the Echo line with a new collection of digital assistant gadgets at different price points.
The plethora of options means that almost everyone could turn their house into a smart home.
A smaller version Amazon Echo comes with customizable finishes, as well as enhanced listening capabilities, due to the second generation far-field microphones inside. It's $99 price tag makes it more affordable as well.
Amazon has also introduced the Amazon Echo Plus, which is taller and slightly more expensive than the standard Echo but has a built-in smart hub and a more powerful audio system. Meanwhile, the Echo Spot is more compact and comes with a 2.5-inch screen and is designed to function as an alarm clock and bedside device. And the Echo Connect is a $35 accessory device that can call 911 using voice commands.
It's not just the hardware that's been upgraded. Alexa, the software behind these gadgets, has some new capabilities in addition to the hundreds of skills she already had in her arsenal.
