Two-Thirds of Air Force’s $5.5B IT Contract Goes To Small Businesses
The General Services Administration announced 75 awards on the 2GIT contract, which is open to all federal buyers.
Seventy-five spots have been awarded on the replacement for the Air Force’s biggest IT products contract as the service shifts from the in-house built NETCENTS-2 contract to the Second-Generation Information Technology, or 2GIT, contract--a blanket purchase agreement through the General Services Administration.
The GSA-built contract has an expected ceiling of $5.5 billion over the next five years, with offerings that include data center infrastructure, devices, network hardware and radio equipment.
Originally, Air Force and GSA officials expected to award between 15 and 25 spots on the BPA, though that changed after garnering feedback from industry. The final contract includes 75 vendors, with more than two-thirds of the spots taken by small businesses—56 in total.
The contract vehicle was designed with the Air Force’s specific needs in mind. However, as a GSA contract, 2GIT is open to all federal buyers.
“The 2GIT program is a great example of how GSA is developing IT solutions that help the federal government meet its mission-critical needs,'' GSA Assistant Commissioner of IT Category Bill Zielinski said in a release announcing the awards. “2GIT also demonstrates GSA’s commitment to working in true partnership with our customer agencies to help them navigate complex acquisition and IT modernization challenges with solutions that will evolve to deliver on government’s current and future needs.”
2GIT is one of a host of major IT contracts shifting to GSA recently, including two other Air Force contracts set to expire: Applications Services, expiring in March 2022, and Network Operations and Infrastructure Solutions, which ends in May 2022.
The vendors awarded spots on the contract include:
