EDS starts site for NMCI suppliers
Officials from EDS say the portal will help firms interested in working with NMCI.
EDS launched a supplier engagement Web site to streamline the process for subcontractors interested in doing work for the Navy Marine Corps Intranet.
The site allows vendors to register their company, submit product and service requests and find information on the entire process, including small business participation and NMCI certification.
The idea for the Web site came from a recent NMCI conference in New Orleans, during which many smaller companies complained that they were interested in working with EDS on the contract, but did not know how to engage the company to bring forward their business solutions, according to Kevin Clarke, an EDS spokesperson.
"We took a long hard look at the engagement process and created the Web site to simplify" it, Clarke said. "We're always looking to start leveraging the capabilities that NMCI offers and there are a wealth of opportunities to incorporate new technologies."
Navy officials said they are pleased with the effort. "The Web site looks good," said Navy Capt. Chris Christopher, NMCI's staff director. "EDS is going to be open to bringing in new ideas and actively soliciting new technology."
Currently, more than 300 information technology companies work with EDS on the $8.8 billion contract.
