FCW's weekly lineup of federal IT decisionmakers on the move

* Lawrence Dubois, former director of the Defense Sciences Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, was appointed vice president of the Physical Sciences Division at SRI International. The Physical Sciences Division works with government and commercial clients on projects ranging from fundamental science to commercial applications development.

* Al Pesachowitz, the first chief information officer at the Environmental Protection Agency, is leaving government for a job in the private sector. Pesachowitz will spend the next three months on a temporary assignment at the EPA and then move on to the private sector. He did not say where. Edwin Levine, who has worked for six years in Florida in the governor's Office of Policy and Budget will replace Pesachowitz. Levine has worked on a variety of information technology issues, including policy, planning and budgeting.

* President Clinton announced his intent to nominate Beth Slavet as chairwoman of the Merit Systems Protection Board. She currently is the vice chairwoman of the MSPB, which oversees the personnel practices of the federal government. Slavet previously was labor counsel to the Senate's Labor and Human Resources Committee.

* Alton Keel, a former U.S. ambassador to NATO during the Reagan and Bush administrations, was named as Land-5 Corp.'s new chairman and chief executive officer. Keel said he plans to position Land-5 to become a premier storage provider for the Linux operating system, with plans to target government resellers and expand into the European NATO defense market.

* Tom Swindell recently was promoted to executive vice president for strategic plans and business development at Universal Systems and Technology Inc. (Unitech). He previously was vice president of Unitech's Training Systems Division. Before joining the company three years ago, Swindell was program manager at Sysorex Information Systems Inc., where he managed the company's Standard Army Information System contract.
