The Transportation Department on Wednesday announced that it will use a

central contractor database managed by the Defense Department to simplify

electronic payments.

DOT said it will integrate vendor information contained in the Central

Contractor Registration (CCR) database into its new financial system. On

May 12 DOT signed a deal with DOD's Joint Electronic Commerce Program Office

to use the registry, which contains data for more than 166,000 companies.

DOT expects that using CCR will significantly increase the number of

electronic vendor payments and reduce the number of times that vendors must

submit business information to the department in order to get paid.

CCR contains vendors' taxpayer identification numbers and electronic

funds transfer information used to process transactions.
