Kellogg named to C4 post

The Pentagon announced yesterday that Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Kellogg has

been selected for promotion and assignment to become the new director of

command, control, communications and computer (C4) systems on the Joint

Chiefs of Staff.

Kellogg currently serves as the Army's assistant chief of staff for operations

and plans. In his new position, he will be responsible for providing the

joint chiefs advice and recommendations on C4 matters; supporting warfighters

from the Commanders in Chief to the shooter; overseeing support for the

National Military Command System; and identifying and resolving military

aspects of information-based issues of national importance, among other

duties.

Kellogg received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1967 and his promotion

to major general in 1996. He served in Vietnam and commanded Special Operations

Command, Europe, and earned the Distinguished Service Medal, Silver StarDefense

Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star

Medal with "V" Device, and the Bronze Star Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters,

among numerous other awards.

Kellogg will replace Air Force Lt. Gen. John Woodward.
