Title: President, chief executive officer and founder of SRA International
Inc., Fairfax, Va.
Experience: Founded SRA International in 1978. The privately held company
now employs almost 2,000 people. From 1976 to 1978, Volgenau was director
of inspection and enforcement at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where
he managed the engineers and physicists who inspect commercial nuclear
power plants. He retired in 1976 as a colonel in the Air Force after 20
years of service.
Education: He earned his Ph.D. in engineering in 1966 from UCLA. He
also holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force
Institute of Technology and is a 1955 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
For eight years, he taught graduate classes in electrical engineering, computer
systems and operations research at UCLA, American University and George
Washington University.
