Why Modernize?

DLA's Web site cites several reasons for modernizing logistics systems. To name a few:

* Current systems do not support commercial business practices, and as originally conceived, reflect the agency's past organizational structure and work processes.

* A new business systems environment is required to transform the Defense Logistics Support Command from a manager of supplies to a manager of suppliers.

* Potential outsourcing requires the integration of supplier, customer and inventory information.

* The current materiel management systems are technologically obsolete and subject to increasing failure.
