FEMA unveils Web site for emergency managers

Emergency managers at the federal, state and local levels now have a new online resource sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help them find information during crisis situations.

The Emanagers page (www.fema.gov/emanagers) was designed to provide emergency managers with quick access to information of professional interest, as opposed to having to sift through FEMA's hierarchy on the Web site, said Marc Wolfson, content manager for the site.

The Emanagers page is part of an overall redesign of the FEMA site that has been in the works for the last few months. The primary goal of the homepage redesign was to make it easier for all visitors to quickly find information. New site features include immediate search engine access, mouse-over menus and a cleaner page layout.

The technical support for the site is provided by Verizon Federal Systems, formerly Bell Atlantic Federal Systems. The redesign was put together by the company with FEMA employees serving as contract supervisors, Wolfson said.

FEMA is seeking feedback from emergency managers and other visitors to its new Web site and has plans to add more target-audience pages in the future, Wolfson said.
