JNMS final RFP

The Army last week released the final request for proposals for an automated

system that will serve as a "brain center" for networks supporting forces

in the field.

The Joint Network Management System is intended to provide commanders

with a commercial-off-the-shelf solution that will give them control over

the multiple communications networks used in joint-forces combat missions.

"The JNMS software provides an automated planning, control and management

capability to assist [commanders] in communications planning and execution,"

according to the technical requirements document from the Army Communications-Electronics

Command. "The objective is to perform high-level and detailed communications

planning, engineering and activation, spectrum planning and management,

security management, monitoring, control and reconfiguration functions."

The benefits of this system include:

* A shared view of the network, which will provide enhanced situational

awareness.

* Enhanced flexibility to support a commander's intent.

* Better use of scarce network resources.

* Increased security for critical systems and networks.

The deadline for proposals is Dec. 4.
