Orkand's e-gov options on one contract

Orkand Corp. has been approved for the General Services Administration's

Federal Supply Service Corporate Contract, enabling the company to offer

its array of e-government services through a single channel.

The new corporate contract, developed under GSA's multiple-award schedule

program, enables an agency to use one task order to purchase a complete

solution with components on multiple schedules. Previously, agencies had

to use an individual task order to purchase each type of service or product

offered by a contractor.

"We can bring to a prospective client, in a combined form, anything on the

two or three schedules we now hold, and do it under one vehicle," said Donald

Orkand, the company's chief executive officer. "It's easier for government

agencies administratively with things like invoices, for example."

Orkand provides services in eight areas: electronic government; geographic

information systems; electronic records management; information assurance;

systems engineering and software development; enterprise management and

operations support; deployment and training; and data operations and facilities

management.

Orkand said the ability to pull together multiple product offerings onto

one contract will cut down on paperwork and redundancy, and it "opens the

door for midsize firms doing business with the federal government to promote

the fullness of their capabilities."

He said the company decided to take advantage of the GSA offering as soon

as it was announced. Orkand formally applied for inclusion on the contract

in August.

Based in Falls Church, Va., Orkand has numerous federal clients, including

the departments of State and Labor.
