Justice CIO departing for law firm
Stephen Colgate is leaving the post; Janis Sposato will be the acting Justice CIO
Justice Department's Justice Management Division
After a government career spanning nearly 25 years, Stephen Colgate is leaving his job as the Justice Department's chief information officer and assistant attorney general for administration.
Beginning Monday, Colgate will be the executive director of the law firm Piper, Marbury, Rudnick & Wolfe LLC.
Janis Sposato, the deputy assistant attorney general for law and policy, will be the acting CIO and assistant attorney general for administration beginning next week, a Justice Department spokeswoman said.
Colgate has served as the Justice Department's senior administrative official for the past nine years. He has been responsible for financial management, human resources, facilities, security and information technology.
Although Colgate served as the department's CIO, the deputy CIO has largely been seen as the IT point person for the department.
Colgate had risen in the chain of command at Justice, previously serving as executive officer in the Civil Rights Division and assistant director of the budget staff. Prior to Justice, he worked at the Treasury Department as director of finance and at the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a budget officer.
