Army awards financial piece to logistics modernization

Computer Sciences Corp. has won a $38 million contract to modernize accounting systems supporting the Army's Wholesale Logistics Modernization Program, the company announced May 29.

The Army awarded the $680 million, 10-year logistics modernization effort in 1999 to CSC to re-engineer and modernize the Army's wholesale logistics processes.

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service awarded the latest contract, which will make accounting services compatible with the other Army logistics functions that CSC is modernizing under the effort.

CSC will act as an applications service provider, replacing aging hardware and software used to track funding for wholesale logistics, depot maintenance and munitions operations. As part of the contract, CSC will update the Commodity Command Standard Systems — Financial and Standard Industrial Funds Systems, including an automated internal operating budget and methods of standards, according to the written announcement.

DFAS will sustain the systems until they are overhauled and the WLMP effort is complete. The Standard Operations and Maintenance Army Research and Development System and the Retail Army Stock Fund Inventory Accounting System also will be sustained as long as required pending modernization decisions.

The DFAS modernization work will take place primarily in Moorestown, N.J., with sustainment operations in St. Louis, Mo., and Chambersburg, Pa.
