Cecom commander to retire
Maj. Gen. Robert Nabors has been a key player in the Army's effort to digitize its forces
CINC Interoperability Program Office at Fort Monmouth
Maj. Gen. Robert Nabors, commander of the Army's Communications-Electronics Command, will retire in July.
Nabors has commanded Cecom, Fort Monmouth, N.J., since September 1998. He has been in the Army for more than 30 years and is the last graduate of the Signal Officer Candidate School still on active duty. All Army officers now attend the same officer candidate school, regardless of career branch.
While at Cecom, Nabors was responsible for the command's $3.1 billion annual budget and has been a key player in the Army's effort to digitize its forces.
Also, as head of the Army-hosted Commander-in-Chief Interoperability Program Office, Nabors has pushed for each of the services to make seamless data sharing an integral part of their information systems development.
The military services traditionally have fielded information systems without regard to whether they could share data with each other. Each service now hosts a CINC Interoperability Program Office to help solve the problem.
Nabors has not announced his future plans.
