Air Force works around glitch
Trainees' pay information entered manually into MilMod as workers race to repair new system
The Air Force has resorted to manually entering pay information for some trainees while racing to repair a software glitch in the new Military Modernization system.
MilMod went online this month and is billed as the largest personnel data system in the world. Among other things, it will enable Air Force personnel to access their files from their desktops and will be integrated into the new Air Force portal.
Workers at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, barely averted pay problems for new basic trainees, however, when they discovered a software glitch. Experts meeting via video teleconference settled on having the data input manually to avoid delaying the trainees' paychecks as staff members work to fix the problem.
"Since coming online June 5, more than 300 people have been in full-court press to identify and fix problems with the operation of the new system as they are reported from the field," Lt. Col. Richard Treasure, chief of the systems requirements division at Randolph, is quoted as saying on the Air Force Web site (www.af.mil). "Each day the system is getting smoother."
