Cisco launches GovNet

Cisco Systems Inc. last week launched Cisco GovNet, a program that focuses on network security and content delivery for government agencies at all levels.

Cisco GovNet's technology bundles are designed to solve networking challenges common to government agencies or help them launch e-government initiatives more efficiently.

"Cisco GovNet is a special program that offers all federal, state, county, city and local government agencies the opportunity to acquire technology starter kits at a reduced price on a one-time basis," said Scott Spehar, vice president of Cisco federal operations, in a release.

The three starter kits are as follows:

* A security kit, to prevent hacker attacks, costs around $12,200.

* A content-delivery kit, to handle increased traffic loads, costs about $21,700.

* A site-to-site virtual private network kit, for secure routing of inter- or intra-agency traffic, is available for about $10,800.
