Exec tapped as DOD CIO

President Bush has nominated a former TRW Inc. executive to become the Defense Department's new chief information officer.

White House officials announced June 7 that John Stenbit is the choice for DOD's top information technology position. Stenbit is the former executive vice president for special assignments at TRW's Aerospace and Information Systems.

He has also served as chairman of the Federal Aviation Administration's Research, Engineering and Development Advisory Committee and chairman of the Science and Technology Advisory Panel at the CIA, according to the announcement.

If the Senate approves his nomination, Stenbit would replace Art Money, who left the Pentagon in April. He would also serve as acting assistant secretary of Defense for command, control, communications and intelligence.

Stenbit has four years of DOD work experience, including two years as principal deputy director of telecommunications and command and control systems, according to his TRW biography.
