The Chief Information Officers Council this month announced that its electronic-government committee has approved $1.2 million to fund eight cross-agency Web portals.The committee received 17 proposals and chose eight based on their potential public benefit, innovation, transferability, number of participating agencies, ease of implementation, strength of government and public support, cost efficiency and privacy protection.The funding for each project varies:
Service locator and portal builder tool for existing portals Seniors.gov and Students.gov: $500,000
Housing and Urban Development’s Virtual Home Center: $225,000
New service portal for low-income citizens: $200,000
MapStats for Kids: $90,000
Science.gov Web Search: $90,000
Science.gov interagency database browse function: $85,000
Volunteer service portals to benefit land management agencies: $10,000.
