Few feds delinquent with SmartPay cards, report says

Despite recent charges of misuse of Defense Department credit cards, almost all employees who hold them have been paying their bills on time.The General Services Administration’s most recent delinquency report, for the month of June, showed that the National Science Foundation was tops with no employee accounts overdue by more than 61 days. GSA operates the SmartPay credit card program for Defense and civilian agencies.GSA spokeswoman Deborah Ruiz said only 1 percent of card accounts were overdue by more than 61 days at the Health and Human Services, Justice and Labor departments, the Federal Emergency Management Agency; the Nuclear Regulatory Commission; NASA; and the Small Business Administration.DOD had 4 percent of its card accounts delinquent by more than 61 days, Ruiz said.DOD’s 1.8 million cards reportedly were used in the past two years to charge more than $9 billion worth of items, some for personal use [see story at ].
