PWC to support Army training

The Army has selected PricewaterhouseCoopers to build and maintain a Web-enabled management system for its Distance Learning Program, which will help train up to 1 million soldiers annually in their occupational specialty requirements.

The enterprise learning management system will provide the foundation for the scheduling, management and delivery of Army training. The automated, Web-accessible training and education network is designed to integrate the service's 400 digital training facilities and enable individual soldiers to access training resources in classrooms and at home.

PWC is leading a team of service and software companies to provide software development, integration, system deployment and post-deployment support for the system. The learning management solution will use commercial off-the-shelf products.

The vendor team includes Science Applications International Corp., Saba Software Inc., Remtech Services Inc., ACS Systems & Engineering Inc., and O'Connell and Associates.

Ted Wills, partner in PWC's Washington, D.C., consulting practice, said the project "will help the Army fulfill its vision of transforming military occupational specialty training and education with an advanced military resource for the delivery of distance learning."

The contract is valued at $27 million for eight years.

PWC also developed and manages eArmyU, which enables soldiers to earn college degrees and certificates by taking online courses from more than 20 universities or other accredited institutions.
