Army names CXO in realignment

As part of Army headquarters' reorganization efforts, the service recently named Maj. Gen. John Scott as its chief integration officer (CXO).

Scott was selected for the position in November and started his duties Dec. 10. Another member of the newly created CXO's office, Craig Sincock, said the office would be integrating the work of the CIO, the chief knowledge officer, the chief technology officer and the chief financial officer to create an enterprise network for the Army.

Lt. Gen. Peter Cuviello, Army chief information officer and director of information systems for command, control, communications and computers, established the CXO position as a new vice DISC4, according to the Army.

The position will be filled by reserve components as one of the jobs that will integrate reserve and guard officers into positions of responsibility within Army headquarters.

Sincock, the CXO office's task force leader for enterprise network, said his first priority will be "to find out what we really have out there," because all of the different installations have their own systems, as do the National Guard units and reserve units. The next step will be determining what to integrate and what to phase out.

"We need to understand the culture out there and then make decisions on whether to change it, or leave it in place and use the best pieces," Sincock said.

Prior to the CXO assignment, Scott served as the commanding general for the Army's 63rd Regional Support Command, Los Alamitos, Calif., from March 1998 until relinquishing that command last month. He recently retired as an Army civilian from his position as the deputy G-3 of the Army Signal Command at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.
