SAIC lands Spawar contract

SSC San Diego

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center San Diego has awarded a contract to a team led by Science Applications International Corp. for engineering services supporting voice and data communications. The award, valued at more than $174 million including options, is an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, cost-plus, fixed fee contract. It will be performed during a period of one year with four one-year options.

It covers SSC San Diego's Communication Network Fleet Engineering Systems Division; the Submarine Command, Control, Communications, Computer and Intelligence Systems Branch; and the Information Systems Management Branch. SSC San Diego is one of five field activities of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command.

The SAIC team will provide:

* Program management.

* Engineering.

* Technical support.

* Integrated logistics support.

* Fabrication services.

* Non-integrated installation support for Navy C4I systems.

Systems and technologies that will receive support include tactical data links, network design and management, interior communications, and Internet application development and support.

Bryan Bebb, SAIC group senior vice president, said the contract gives SAIC "the opportunity to help the U.S. Navy deploy and operate the next generation of data and voice communications networks," with secure, reliable and easy-to-maintain networks.

"I am pleased to renew our partnership [with SAIC], enhancing our mutual capability to deliver reliable systems that provide timely and cost-effective solutions to the fleet's needs," said Angel Maldonado, head of Communications Network Fleet Engineering Systems Division, in a release.

The SAIC team is composed of four large businesses and 12 small businesses. The contract was awarded Oct. 26 and announced Dec. 6.
