Upgrade sought to DOD asset tracker
Air Force issues RFP for upgrade to the main DOD system for tracking an asset from factory to foxhole
The Air Force's Global Air Traffic Operations/Mobility Command and Control program last week issued a request for proposals for an upgrade to the Defense Department's main system for tracking an asset from factory to foxhole.
The Global Transportation Network (GTN) 2010 will be an enterprisewide, Web-based solution for the dissemination of U.S. Transportation Command's in-transit visibility data.
The current GTN system, which has been in use for five years, is an enormous data warehouse that has more than 2,500 sites feeding into it and receives 2 million transactions per day.
The RFP for GTN 2010 requires contractors to possess the following capabilities:
* Design and implement a substantial Web enterprise information system interoperable with multiple government and commercial systems.
* Design, develop and implement a highly available system that maintains synchronization and connectivity requirements.
* Provide adequate security controls in accordance with DOD and Air Force regulations.
According to Federal Sources Inc., the incumbent contractor for GTN is Lockheed Martin Corp., which is a confirmed possible prime for the new system, along with Electronic Data Systems Corp., Accenture and SRA International Inc.
Responses to the RFP, which has a total estimated value of more than $150 million, are due by Jan. 15, 2002.
