The National Cancer Institute today launched a redesigned Web site at , proclaiming it a one-stop resource for information about cancer.Previously, the institute ran multiple sites. But the contents of those sites, including www.CancerNet.gov and www.CancerTrials.gov, have been incorporated in the new site, said Michael Arluk, chief of the institute’s Information Management Branch. Arluk’s team began the redesign a year ago and did the work in-house.In addition to information about all types of cancer, visitors can tap data about clinical trials, research programs and funding, and statistics, he said. The site’s information is arranged by topic instead of by organization, as was the practice on the institute’s previous sites, Arluk said.To help users find information, the site’s search engine, K2 from Verity Inc. of Sunnyvale, Calif., supports a feature called “Best Bets,” which aims to provide the most pertinent information based on each search request, he said.
