OPM looks for budget help on e-gov projects

The Office of Personnel Management promises it can complete its five e-government initiatives within 18 to 24 months if the Office of Management and Budget can find the agency more money from this year’s IT budget.“We need OMB to come through for us with additional funding in 2002,” said Janet Barnes, OPM’s CIO.Barnes, who spoke at a conference in Washington sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP of New York, said she invites every agency to chip in with resources, but to complete the project, OMB’s help is required.Barnes did not say how much money she had or needed, but said OPM’s projects help every agency. “We’re not going to succeed if we don’t succeed together,” she said.OPM’s five projects are a human resource data network, human resources integration, online learning, recruitment and online training.
