E-gov strategy report outlines specific milestones

The Office of Management and Budget yesterday released the much-anticipated e-government strategy report, and for the first time, its 24 approved e-gov projects’ designated goals.Lead agencies will be expected to reach these milestones, and more objectives could be added as projects move along, said Mark Forman, OMB’s associate director for e-gov and IT. The report outlined 26 targeted tasks to be completed by Sept. 1 and 20 more to be finished by Dec. 31. There also are a number of milestone dates that have not been scheduled.Forman announced the release of the e-gov strategy report during the relaunch of the Web portal at the White House yesterday. He said the relaunch starts the deployment of the federal e-gov strategy. Eventually, many elements of the e-gov projects will be run through FirstGov, Forman added.Along with the project goals, the strategy report outlines the problems team leaders face and OMB’s solutions for them. For the projects to succeed, the report says, each e-gov initiative must meet objectives for performance, policy alignment, training, communication and reorganization.
