IT watchdog leaving GAO

Council for Excellence in Government

The General Accounting Office soon will lose information technology watchdog David McClure.

In August, McClure, GAO's director of IT management issues, will join the Council for Excellence in Government as vice president for electronic government.

"Realizing the enormous potential of e-government is critical to the council's mission and to our country's needs," Patricia McGinnis, the council's president and chief executive officer, said in a July 18 news release.

In his new role, McClure will be the strategic lead for the council's e-government efforts and will help expand its intergovernmental partnerships. He also will work on shaping its e-government fellows program, a leadership development initiative for government IT managers.

"I am excited about joining the council team," he said. "I look forward to working with public- and private-sector leaders to advance creative, workable approaches to e-government challenges and opportunities."

During his tenure at GAO, McClure has directed governmentwide evaluations of IT investment and performance measurement issues, receiving accolades along the way that include Federal Computer Week's Federal 100 awards.

"David's extensive experience and creative ideas make him the perfect fit for this important part of the council's work," McGinnis said.
