Labor buys IT support from CSC

The Labor Department has awarded Computer Sciences Corp. a task order, potentially worth $59 million, to keep supporting the systems that process medical benefits to people with black lung disease and other occupational illnesses.

CSC will provide information technology services to

* The automated support package for Labor's black lung benefits program.

* The medical bill payment system of the Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program.

Under a previous deal, the company was responsible for moving the black lung program from a mainframe platform to a client/server architecture.

"CSC is delighted to continue our longstanding relationship with [Labor] on this program," Marcia Kim, vice president of the company's citizens services unit, said in an Oct. 21 news release. "This agreement demonstrates the department's commitment to directly improving citizens' lives through e-government."

The one-year agreement, which includes four one-year options, falls under the National Institutes of Health's governmentwide Chief Information Officers Solutions and Partners 2 contract.
