Browning joins Booz Allen

Miriam Browning, former director of enterprise integration in the Army's chief information officer's office, this week became a principal on Booz Allen Hamilton's new defense systems team.

Browning, who retired from the Army in August 2002, said she had several opportunities to choose from, but selected Booz Allen because "it is the gold standard of consulting firms" and had solid, long-term potential. She added that the company always served her well when she was a government customer at the Army and earlier at the Energy Department.

During her Army tenure, Browning championed the evolution of the service's Army Knowledge Management (AKM) goals, including the development of the Army Knowledge Online (AKO) Web portal. AKM's goals aim to improve the management and availability of information throughout the service. The AKO portal provides Army news, distance-learning opportunities, e-mail accounts, a search engine and a chat room.

Booz Allen's new defense systems team is "consolidating a lot of talents across the IT spectrum," including the areas of transformation, systems development and integration, enterprise resource planning, advanced distributed learning systems, and more, she said.

Browning's first day at Booz Allen was Jan. 6, and she said she spent her five months of "retirement" focused on three things: traveling, finishing a home renovation and doing some freelance government consulting. She declined to name her clients.

The Army CIO office is still looking to fill the director of enterprise integration position that Browning vacated, but she is not involved in the search process.
