CDC re-ups CSC for surveillance support

The Centers for Disease Control has awarded a $25 million contract for continued development of a national electronic disease surveillance system.The new task order, awarded to Computer Sciences Corp. through the General Services Administration’s Answer contract, extends work the company began under an October, 2000, contract.The surveillance system is part of a public health information network that links and integrates a variety of public health activities while meeting confidentiality and security requirements.CSC of El Segundo, Calif., will continue to support the full software development lifecycle for the surveillance system’s base system as well as support the CDC’s plans for initial deployment to 20 state and local sites. Emergint Inc., a Louisville, Ky., small business that develops clinical information systems, will assist CSC.
