FAA veteran to join Lockheed

A former senior official at the Federal Aviation Administration will join Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Air Traffic Management division.

Monte Belger, the FAA's acting deputy administrator until recently, has been named vice president of transportation systems solutions at Lockheed. He retired from the agency in September 2002 after a 30-year run.

Belger will guide Lockheed's business expansion into the broader transportation market, with a focus on aviation and intermodal initiatives, according to a Jan. 8 news release. He also will deal with related security issues.

"Monte Belger's leadership and impressive record of accomplishments are greatly appreciated within the transportation community," said Don Antonucci, president of the Air Traffic Management division. "He brings invaluable credentials as we apply our air traffic management systems integration and command and control experience to the broader aviation and transportation arenas."

During his tenure, Belger's contributions included supervising the FAA's modernization plan, facilitating the transition of aviation security responsibilities to the new Transportation Security Administration, and co-chairing efforts to adopt acquisition and personnel reform.
