IntelliDyne to manage DOD tech center

Advanced Technology Innovation Center

The Defense Department recently selected IntelliDyne LLC, an information technology services firm, to manage the Advanced Technology Innovation Center (ATIC), which is the test bed for the Military Health System (MHS) and commercial technology innovations.

The center identifies, evaluates and implements innovative technologies and processes designed to enable the MHS to provide the best health service delivery practices.

The contract, which was awarded Dec. 19, 2002, and went into effect Jan. 1, is valued at $8.6 million, with a base year and four renewable option years. It requires IntelliDyne to manage all four areas of the ATIC's operation:

* The executive-level briefing and demonstration center, where MHS applications are showcased to high-level government executives and military flag officers.

* The Joint Medical Testing Center, a certified test lab that performs network security and risk assessment testing for DOD medical applications in a secure environment.

* The technology assessment and technology insertion research center, which conducts analyses and issues reports on leading-edge products and medical applications, and implements advanced technology into MHS operations.

* The training facility, which delivers training on products requested by the MHS IT program offices, such as the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) II.

CHCS II is an electronic patient record system that will make it easier for military doctors to manage the care of DOD employees as they move from base to base worldwide. In November 2002, DOD's IT Acquisition Board approved a limited deployment of the system after a successful pilot project in four DOD hospitals.

The contract award is the continuation of IntelliDyne's two-year relationship with the ATIC, said Rob Grey, chief executive officer and founder of IntelliDyne. He added that the Falls Church, Va.-based firm was "delighted" to win the ATIC contract, and is "extremely glad to be continuing our partnership with the MHS."

IntelliDyne also announced the selection of two subcontractors to conduct technology assessments: SRA International Inc. and DataCure Inc.
