Daniel Matthews has been appointed chief information officer at the Transportation Department.
Matthews comes to Transportation from Savantage Financial Services, where he served as senior vice president since July 2000. In that job, he led projects to modernize the financial management systems at a number of federal agencies. Prior to Savantage, he spent 22 years at Lockheed Martin Corp. and its predecessor, Martin Marietta.
"Dan's more than 30 years of experience in information technology will be invaluable to the department as we continue to enhance the efficiency and security of our information systems," Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta said in a news release today.
Matthews takes the information technology helm from Kim Taylor, who has been acting CIO for more than two years. Taylor will return to the position of deputy CIO.
Matthews will act as the principal adviser to Mineta on information resources and services management. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Kent College and a Master of Science in business administration from Strayer College.
