OMB’s e-government report due in two weeks

The Office of Management and Budget will release the latest version of its e-government strategy report April 17.Mark Forman, OMB’s associate director for IT and e-government, today said the strategy will include details on how the office will implement the E-Government Act of 2002.Forman, who has been named to be the administrator of OMB’s Office of E-Government, declined to say if he would officially assume that job on April 17, but he did say most of the paperwork has been completed.The e-government strategy likely will include OMB’s recommendations on how agencies should use share-in-savings contracts. “We hope to have some share-in-savings contracts in place,” Forman said at the Secure E-Business Summit in Arlington, Va.April will be a busy month for OMB and its e-government efforts. The office is completing its latest cybersecurity report, which Forman will present to Congress next week.“We have seen measurable progress with agencies improving cybersecurity,” he said. “We have made [significant] progress over the last 18 months in understanding what needs to be done, and we still have a long way to go.”Forman also said the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Management e-government project will launch an online set of collaboration tools for first responders later this month. The tools include a secure instant messaging application.
