HHS names chief enterprise architect

The Department of Health and Human Services has named Susan Warshaw as its first chief enterprise architect.

Warshaw, who has more than 25 years of IT experience, joined the department in mid-April. Her role will be to define HHS' enterprise architecture and set information technology standards for the department, HHS officials said. She will focus on using program management skills and information technology to advance business processes.

Warshaw was previously the chief IT architect for the Treasury Department's Bureau of Engraving and Printing. where she established the bureau's first target architecture in less than one year.

Prior to her position at Treasury, Warshaw was a computer specialist at the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), where she was involved in several Defense Department architecture projects aimed at achieving joint interoperability. She also worked with DISA's chief information officer to develop a comprehensive strategy for the agency's first enterprise architecture program.

Warshaw has a master's degree in systems and technology management and bachelor's degrees in computer information systems and human nutrition.

At HHS, Warshaw will focus on setting hardware and data collection standards across the department. She will also standardize Internet servers and network connectivity, officials said.
