Army awards $2 billion hardware contract

The Army last week selected General Dynamics C4 Systems for the $2 billion Common Hardware/Software III (CHS-3) contract, which provides commercial and rugged computers, network hardware equipment, power subsystems, peripheral devices and commercial software to Department of Defense customers worldwide.

Through this program, General Dynamics, which is the prime contractor for the Army's CHS-2 effort, will provide Army, Marine Corps and Air Force tactical computer users with next-generation commercial and ruggedized workstations, associated hardware and software.

All federal agencies are eligible to purchase computer products and services under the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract, which has a potential value of $2 billion over its 10-year life.

General Dynamics' core team members are Sun Microsystems Inc., Cisco Systems Inc. and DRS Technologies Inc.
