The Senate yesterday unanimously confirmed Joshua B. Bolten as Office of Management and Budget director, replacing Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., who left June 6 to run for governor of Indiana. Bolten’s confirmation fills the remaining leadership gap at OMB. The Senate confirmed Clay Johnson as deputy director for management earlier this month. OMB went five days without confirmed senior leadership. The Senate confirmed Bolten much faster than Johnson. The Governmental Affairs Committee held his hearing earlier this week. Before becoming OMB director, Bolten served as White House deputy chief of staff and is one of the Bush administration’s closest advisers on economic and domestic policy.
