Army Web-enabling base support

Army installations worldwide soon will be using Web-enabled systems to perform day-to-day base-sustaining functions.

The Army recently awarded SRA International Inc. a task order to provide information technology services that will replace existing standardized software applications with Web-enabled systems.

The Web-based installation support modules are intended to improve user access and capabilities and reduce costs.

The task order, awarded June 24 under the General Services Administration Federal Supply Schedule, has an estimated value of $25 million over five years if all options are exercised, according to an SRA spokeswoman.

Since 2001, SRA has provided project management, software requirements analysis, database redesign and other IT services to develop the architecture and design the Army's modernized installation support modules. Under the new task order, SRA and its subcontractors, CLMS LLC and Tiger Team Consulting, will deliver:

* Software and database development.

* Systems integration.

* Testing.

* Data migration.

* Security engineering services.

The new Web-enabled systems will help the Army standardize and reduce redundant inputs of data elements that support business functions at installations, camps, posts and stations worldwide.

The new systems will also improve the processing procedures for soldiers and their families, providing support for moving soldiers from active duty to reserve status, retirement or discharge, according to SRA.
