EDS to run State Department's telecom

The State Department has awarded a contract to EDS to assume operational responsibility for the agency's domestic telecom system, including management of the department's network for domestic voice, data and video conferencing.

The contract was awarded under a General Services Administration Connection Contract task order. It includes a one-year base period with extension options for 7.5 years. Its value was not disclosed.

The contract includes management of new technology and cost-saving enhancements to the network, which covers more than 40 locations in the continental United States, including the State Department's main location in Washington, D.C., the U.S. mission to the United Nations and all consular affairs offices.

The EDS team for the contract includes AT&T, Henkels & McCoy Inc., and TWD & Associates Inc., a small business teaming partner.
