Commerce's Bodman to head E-Gov committee

Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director of Management Clay Johnson will appoint Samuel Bodman as the chair of the E-Government Committee on the President's Management Council, officials announced this week.

Bodman, deputy secretary of the Commerce Department, has more than 30 years of experience in the private sector, officials said.

"Sam will work well with E-Gov Administrator Karen Evans to ensure the e-government initiatives are using information technology to provide services to the taxpayer in more convenient and efficient ways," Johnson said in a statement.

The President's Management Council, made up of department and agency chief operating officers with agencywide authority, was formed to help achieve the goals of the president's management agenda. Expanding electronic government is one of the five initiatives in the agenda.

Bodman spent 31 years as a venture capital consultant. He is also a former professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received a bachelor degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University and completed his PhD in chemical engineering at MIT, according to officials.
