Starting date set for federal grant site
Federal agencies must post synopses of grant announcements on the Grants.gov portal starting Nov. 7.
The Office of Management and Budget ordered all federal agencies to post synopses of grant announcements on the Grants.gov portal starting Nov. 7.
OMB's Office of Federal Financial Management issued the final directive in a memo today. It outlines 27 common data elements required in each synopsis, such as a contact for problems and due dates for applications. Each synopsis must provide basic information about the announcement and either a Web link or another method for accessing the full announcement.
Agencies may continue to post their complete announcements through their own means. They also can post the full announcement to Grants.gov.
The Grants.gov portal is one of two dozen crossagency e-government initiatives launched under the Bush administration's E-Government Strategy to promote collaboration and consolidation along common services and needs across government.
People who want to use Grants.gov will be able to register for credentials as of Oct. 20. The portal will be fully integrated with the governmentwide E-Authentication Gateway following the Oct. 31 launch of the first phase, program officials said two weeks ago at a stakeholders meeting.
OMB received comments from seven agencies on the draft policy.
