NIMA awards imagery contract

The National Imagery and Mapping Agency recently awarded a $16.7 million contract to General Dynamics Corp. for imagery and geospatial services.

General Dynamics, based in Falls Church, Va., will provide "deployment services to include end-to-end imagery and geospatial expertise to support warfighters," according to a Defense Department statement. The work likely will involve building a computer network to send and receive imagery and mapping data between military sites in the United States and overseas.

General Dynamics' Advanced Information Systems business unit, part of its Information Systems & Technology division, will perform 50 percent of the work overseas, 30 percent in Washington, D.C. and 20 percent in Chantilly, Va., the department statement said.

General Dynamics' Advanced Information Systems business unit includes Veridian Corp., named in the contract award. General Dynamics acquired Veridian earlier this year.

Veridian's information technology expertise includes enterprise and network security, information systems development and integration, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.
